What is Gens d’Images?
Founded in 1954 by Albert Plécy, the association Gens d’Images brings together people who, privately or professionally, are concerned with still or animated images, whatever their medium may be. All types of images can inspire reflections and generate debates. Artists, producers, distributors, curators, researchers and end users come together to discuss their work, their experience and explorations. It is a melting pot of various points of view, the basis for some rich and stimulating encounters.
Three awards for photography
Every year, since 1955, Gens d’Images organizes the Prix Niepce, the foremost photographic award in France and the Prix Nadar which rewards the best photographic book. The Prix Arcimboldo, created in 1999 with the support of the foundation HP France, distinguishes the top digital creations.
Our activities
Gens d’Images also organizes monthly events - Cafés Images and Ateliers – as well as its yearly Congrès and party.
The Cafés Images hold their meetings on the first Saturday of every month between 10 and 12 am at the Esther Woerdehoff gallery, 36 rue Falguière, 75015 Paris.
The Ateliers take place on the last Thursday of every month, from 18.30 to 20 pm at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, 5-7 rue de Fourcy 75004 Paris.
How to join Gens d’Images
Becoming a member of Gens d’Images is an opportunity to meet some highly motivated people, to show and discuss some photographic work, to contribute your experience and thoughts, and to debate about the evolution of all aspects of our “world of images”.
It also offers free access to the exhibitions held at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, at the Jeu de Paume and at the Musée du Montparnasse.
